I used (2) Buy one, Get one free coupons for the Axe shower gel from the 7/31 Red Plum Insert (This knocked off $11.58 so I ended up getting all 4 shower gels for the price of one). Since it was Buy one, get one 50% off in store, then my buy one, get one free knocks off the full price of one.

CVS and Free Gas Too!

This was the first time I have been able to participate in the CVS summer gas promotion. This is because it was the first time they offered items I was interested enough in purchasing $30 worth to qualify.

Here's the breakdown:
  • (2) M&M Chocolate Pretzels 2/$6 (used $1 off coupon from 6/19 RP)
  • (2) M&M Peanut 2/$3
  • 1 Hershey Air Delight (free coupon printed at the CVS Redbox for this one)
  • 3 Tide Original $5.99 (used 2 .50 coupons from today's P&G ad)
  • 2 Head and Shoulder's Shampoo (used 1 B1G1 coupon from today's P&G ad, and a $1 off coupon from the 6/5 P&G ad)
  • 2 Orbit gum 2/$4
I had $13.50 in ECB bucks to print at the Redbox since it was the end of a quarter and I also had $9.00 in ECB bucks from previous shops.

This brought my total to $10.46. I got the $10 gas card and $2 in ECB so my net total was a negative $1.54 today. Now these are the kind of deals I love!

Stock Up Price on Toilet Paper - Charmin (Staples)

Picked up this deal for only $4.24. That makes it only 26.5 cents per roll from Staples. Who would think to pick up toilet paper from Staples? It's on sale for $4.99 and then I used a coupon here to get 15% off!

Sunday, June 26, 2011

CVS Dove's Deal (HOT!)

This week CVS is advertising the Doves Men+Care bodywash for $5. The register rings these up at $3, but here's the kicker. The buy one, get one free coupon in the 6/26 Red Plum insert subtracts $5.99 off your total! I also picked up 2 Dove's Men's Care Antiperspirant. It was advertised at 2/$7, they also rang up as $3. I used 2 $2 off coupons for those. I also picked up 2 Xtra laundry detergents at $1.49 each and used a $1 coupon for them. And received $5 in ECB!

I used $5.99 in ECBs from a previous purchase which brought my total down to $1.00!

Trip Summary states: "Today You Saved 32.43"!

Not bad... huh... Spent $1 to get $5 and took home all these wonderful things!

Walgreens Pringles Deal

I picked up the Pringles at 4/$6 deal and used a $1 off 3 coupon. I also used $7 in Register Rewards from previous purchases. These RR expired today so I had to use them.

My total out of pocket cost: $1.79 and receive $2 RR from the purchases.

Walgreens Dove Men's Care Deal

Pick up these 18 bars of soap for FREE! And no out of pocket expense thanks to Walgreen's faulty computer systems. These were suppose to be on sale for 3 $18, but they rang up at full price. The cashier told me if he did a price adjustment, I would not receive my register rewards. After consulting with his manager, he informed the cashier to sell me the items for $4 each which would have been my final price after register rewards. I applied my $4 off coupons from Today's Red Plum insert and walked out paying only $1.08 and that was sales tax. My subtotal was $0.00. These bars retail for $8.49 at Walgreens.

Zyrtec almost free (5.4 cents per pill)

I took advantage of the $5 off Zyrtec coupon from WalMart's web site. Their price guarantee is real! I went to the WalMart near my job and noticed the 5 cnt, Zyrtec was $5.27, but the store shelves were empty, so I went to the WalMart near my house. The same Zyrtec was $5.97! At first, I though, heck, I'll still get the Zyrtec for .97 after my coupon. But then, "The Millionaire Next Door" book thoughts popped in my head and I decided to get my discount.

When I got to the register, I told the cashier that the WalMart down the street had the Zyrtec for $5.27. She simply scanned the item, overrode the price and let me have them for $5.27 with "NO QUESTIONS ASKED!" Just like the commercials say.

I purchased 2 Zyrtecs at $5.27 each, used 2 $5 off coupons. Total cost: .54 and then ended up paying $.95 in taxes! That's effectively over 100% in sales taxes! I'll be willing to bet you a dime to a donut that at 5.4 cents a pill, the company is still making a hefty profit.

Awesome CVS Deal moneymaker!

All free and walked away with $9.99 in Extra Care Bucks.

The Zyrtec was on sale for 5.99 and you receive $5.99 in ECB. On top of that, I used a $4.00 off coupon from the 4/10 Redplum insert. CVS paid me $4.00 to take the Zyrtec home with me!

The Shick Hydro 3 was on sale for $8.00. I used the $4 coupon from today's Smart Source insert and CVS gave me $4 in Extra Care Bucks so this item was free also.

My subtotal was $5.99 and I used $6 ECB from a previous shop to pay for this. I wasn't aware CVS would allow this until the cashier told me that he owed me $.01. However, I still had to pay $1.26 in sales taxes.

CVS Nestle Water 52% savings

CVS is running a special this week on their Nestle water. I had a devil of a time trying to find a CVS store in my area that had the water. Many of the stores told me they substituted the water for another brand because the delivery truck didn't bring the water.

The water is on sale for $2.88 (reg$ 4.99)

I used a Nestle coupon for $1 off 2 packages of water, which brought my cost down to $2.38 for each one. This brings the cost down to under .10/bottle.

Publix 5/31 - 47% savings

I had to take advantage of a few BOGO offers from Publix before they expired today.
  • 2 Pillsberry toaster strudels (these came with .60 peelies, but I chose not to use them because I had a .50 off coupon which Publix will double to $1. If I used the .60 peelie, Publix would not have doubled it).

$60.72 worth of goods for only $5.54! Wow!

I received a $5 off $25 CVS coupon that expired today, so I had to use it. Not doing so felt like lost money.

I was saddened to learn that that Nestle Water that CVS had advertised on sale was being substituted with another brand of water which my wife doesn't care for, so that was a lost cause, but I will be looking into other CVS stores in the area for the sale.

I ended up purchasing the following:
  • 2 Tide Original for $5.94 ($2.45 savings)
  • 2 Sparkle Paper towels $4.99 ($4.30 savings)

It was a 24 cnt, and it was a get 100% more free deal for $3.49. I used the $2 off coupon in this months Walgreen's book and a $1.50 off coupon from coupons.com (Thanks CommonSenseWithMoney). So, it was like this item was double free!

Since I didn't want to deal with Walgreen's telling me I couldn't checkout because the value of my coupons was greater than my purchase, I bought a $1 pack of cookies. The kids will enjoy them!

Walgreens (62% savings) 5/19

A few lessons were learned from this trip. The number of coupons+rewards rewards cannot exceed the item count. For this reason it pays to buy something cheap (in this case, .38 M&Ms) to use a $5 Register Reward. Also, if this case occurs again, be sure to use the higher dollar register rewards before the lower dollar ones except in cases where the higher dollar register reward will exceed your total cost of your purchases.
  • Scott Naturals Paper Towels. $5 Reg, used 3/$1.50 off coupons
  • 1/2 gal milk (no coupons)
  • BOGO Kleenex tissue - store sale
  • BOGO Off! Product - coupon and used $1 off Walgreen's coupon (paid $7.99 for 2)

Rack Room (BOGO? false advertising)

Today, I decided to buy the boys some shoes since they sent me a text message on my phone which stated the following:

BOGO @ Rack Room plus $10 off $60 purchase #30934,24570 thru 5/16/11. 1/trans Cant b combined w/ other offers or for gift cards Other exclusions apply
To me this meant: Buy one, get one free plus $10 off $60 purchase.

During checkout this is what happened:

Felix Shoes (Sketchers) : 42.58
  • Original price: $49.99
  • $10 off $60: -7.41
BitzRocket - Z : 14.89
  • Original price: $44.99
  • Summer BOGO Event: -10.00
  • $10 off $60: -2.80
  • 50.0% off: -17.50
Total: 57.47

I questioned the cashier because I was thinking in my mind I would get the first set of shoes for $49.99, then get the second pair of shoes free. I never expected the $10 off since my order didn't exceed $60. He said the offer meant, Buy one, get one for 50% off. The deal as still ok and the boys needed the shoes, so we got them.

A few side notes: The Walgreens I went to doesn't put the sale price on all the items that are on sale so I spent quite a bit of time rechecking the sale paper just to be sure I had the right items. Also, I also planned on getting the buy one, get one free Kleenex, but I guess a shelf clearer must have beat me there.

Target savings 5/15 (30%)

Awesome Target Deal good for 5/15 only

Today, Target has a group deal. Here are the details:
Buy any four of the items listed below:
  • Suave shampoo ($3.49)
  • Degree/Dove deodorant ($3.49)
  • Dove soap ($8.49)
  • PF Chang's frozen meals ($6.99)
  • Bertolli frozen meals ($5.89)
You will receive a $5 gift card! The reason I say the deal is only good for today is because I will be taking advantage of the deal using coupons that expire today (5/15). In the 4/17 issue of Red Plum there are coupons for the Degree deodorant. You'll get $1 off. I got three, so the deal should work like this for me.

3 Degrees (using 3 / $1 off coupons) = $7.47 total
1 PF Changs = 6.99 total
minus $5 gift card: $9.46
Total savings: 46%

I will most likely be donating the deodorant to help with the tornado victims.

Quick CVS Trip

CVS has puffs on sale for .99/box of 68 count this week. This is a good deal. However, I went with the Kleenex Deal since I had a coupon from the April issue of All You Magazine (which by the way, is my first coupon I have used from the magazine). I purchased 2 boxes of 260 count Kleenex for $3.49, then used my .50 off coupon along with $3.50 in ECB from earlier purchases which brought my total down to 3.48.

Here is my logic:
Puffs: .99/68 = 0.01456 per sheet
Kleenex: (3.49+3.49-.50 )/520 = 0.01246 per sheet

The .99 box of Puffs is very appealing and if I had a Puffs coupon it would have been a no brainer.

Savings: .50 coupon+$3 ECB = 3.50
Total cost: $3.48

I couldn't wait until I got home to open the first box!

The register did BEEP when my BOGO coupon was scanned, but the cashier accepted it. (final cost: FREE!)

  • EZ Flossers, not shown $2, received $2 RR on this item.

Bounty was $7.99 (reg $9.99) + $2 ECB

I also used my $10 ECB from earlier trips.

CVS Trip 4/19 (Allegra HOT Deal) (64%-79% savings)

Since I had 5 issues of the 4/17 Smart Source inserts, it's hard to give up the $7 Allegra coupon this week, so I went by CVS to use them up.

Here are my transactions:
#1:
  • (2) Easter candy .50 reg price .87
  • (2) Easter candy .99 reg price 1.50
  • Allegra $9.99 reg price $13.79 (used $7 off coupon also)
  • Visine A Eyedrops $6.99 (used $2 off coupon and $2 off CVS coupon)
Total savings: 64%

#2 and #3 were identical
  • Allegra $9.99 reg price $13.79 (used $7 off coupon also)
Total savings: 79% off

Walgreens 4/19 (110% savings includes Register Rewards)

Picked up these goodies from Walgreens
  • Gillette Fusion Razor ($9.99, used $4 off Smart Source Coupon, and received $4 RR. Real cost: $1.99!).
  • Nasogel Dry Noses ($4.99, used $1.50 off peelie coupon and received $5 RR, so Walgreen's paid me to take this home with me)
  • Splenda (This one was most interesting. The item is not listed on sale in the circular nor is the sale price listed on the shelf). It goes regular for $5.49. It was on sale for $2.99. There were $3/1 coupons in the 4/17 SS inserts and you receive $4 in RR, so once again Walgreen's pays you to take these items home with you!

Publix Trip 4/19 (Free Ketchup) (100.31% savings!)

I used coupons at Publix to buy the ketchup which was on sale for $1.99 each! Regular price: $3.19!

My son was out of school sick yesterday, so I stayed home with him. While I home, I got notification that Heinz was giving way 57,000 $2/1 coupons. I managed to get 4 of them. The site was out of coupons within 2 hours.

Publix Trip 4/17 (Saved 50%)

Picked up the following items:
  • Bounty Napkins
  • Bounty Paper Towels (didn't need them, but needed to buy them to get the deal with the napkins)
  • Publix Bread
  • Publix Milk (I don't know what kind of cows Barber's Milk company use, because it costs more!)
  • Oscar Mayer Center Cut Bacon (BOGO free, then used $1 Publix coupon)
This receipt confuses me. I was under the impression that I needed to buy the Bounty Basic to get the napkins free, but it appears that I needed to buy the Napkins to get the Paper Towels free. I was upfront with the cashier when I told her, "You don't have the 200 count Bounty Napkins, so I got the 160 count instead. Is that ok?" She said, it was fine.

Here are the results:
Store coupon savings: $9.79
Special price savings: $ 6.98
Total Savings: $16.77

My cost: $13.48 (50% savings)

WinnDixie Trip 4/17 (79% savings)

Took advantage of Winn Dixie's make a meal offer this week. It consisted of the following:

Purchase 6 Totino's pizzas for $10 and get the following

  • Free Hawaiian Punch
Well, thanks to the Birmingham Bargain Mom, I was able to sweeten the deal with 4 /.50 off coupons which Winn Dixie doubles to $1! Total cost: $3.74 for all of this!

As a side note, my receipt states that I have saved $1,750.11 with my customer rewards card!

CVS Trip 4/17 (Allegra HOT Deal) (74% savings)

CVS has a great deal on Allegra this week. It was very interesting. The pharmacist recommended that I use their $2 off coupon to purchase the product. That reminded me that I saw a $7 off coupon in the paper this morning and I happened to just purchase 2 additional copies of the newspaper so make the deal at Rite Aid, where Rite Aid basically paid me to take home the Nivea Men's Bodywash. I had the those papers in the car!

The Allegra retails for $14.29. This week it is on sale for $9.99, use the $7 coupon in the 4/17 issue of Smart Source and you walk out with the product for $2.99! That helps since Allegra is now over the counter and we pay a lot more for it (out of pocket) since it is no longer covered by insurance.

One caveat, the coupon says, one coupon per transaction. So, I purchased one at the pharmacy desk and one at the front counter!

Rite Aid Trip 04/17 (86% savings)

Usually my Rite Aid trips are on Thursdays, but today had such great deals, I made the effort to make it over there this morning. I got there around 11:30 and many of the shelfs were already going bare. I didn't get a chance to get everything I wanted, but the trip was still a success.

Here are my results:
  • 4 Nivea Active 3 body wash for men $3.99 sale (Reg. price 4.99), used 4 / $3.00 off coupon in today's paper and received $5 in UP+ rewards. Rite Aid basically paid me to take these home with me! Needless to say, after I got mine, another lady in the store ended up clearing off the shelf of this item, but there were only 3 left when I got my 4.
  • 2 Zip Lock Freezer bags 2/$5 (Reg. price 1/$3.99), then used 2/$1.25 off coupons (4/3 Smart Source insert)
  • 2 Zip Lock Sandwich bags 2/$5 (Reg. price 1/$2.99), then used 1/$1.25 off coupon (4/3 Smart Source insert)
  • 2 Purex (3IN1 Sheets), buy one, get one free, then used Rite Aid video coupon $1 off
  • 2 Latex Gloves, Buy one, get one free
  • Four 10 Inch Dixie Plates, buy one, get one free, then used Rite Aid video coupon $2 off
  • Two 13 gallon trash bags, buy one, get one free
  • Neutrogena Body Wash for women (this one buy one, get one 50% off, but since they only had one left, they let me get it at 50% off!)
Because I purchased more than $10 with the video rewards program, I got to use an additional $2 off coupon and since I purchased more than $30 in home products, I got an additional $10 in UP+ rewards.

I also used $2 UP+rewards to pay for the items along with all the coupons.

Full retail value of the products, I purchased today before sale and discounts: $90.21
After sale and coupons, my total out of pocket cost: $30.36
My real cost (since I received $18 in UP+ rewards): $12.36!
